Payment Structure:

My practice is a private-pay practice, meaning I do not work directly with insurance companies. I want to be transparent about what this means and also share why many clients find private pay to be a supportive and empowering option for their care. Please scroll down to see my Sliding Scale for payment structure.

Why Choose Private Pay?

Understanding Deductibles and Cost

Many people are surprised to learn that if they have a high deductible, they are often paying the full cost of therapy out of pocket anyway until that deductible is met. In these cases, private pay may not be significantly different in cost—and can actually be simpler and more transparent.

I encourage clients to check:

  • Their annual deductible

  • Whether it has already been met

  • Their out-of-network benefits (if applicable)

I’m happy to provide a superbill upon request, which you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

  • Out of Network - I am happy to provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement (what is a super bill and how does it work?)

    • I am happy to make a session 1 hour and 15 minutes and use those extra 15 minutes to help you navigate Supper Billing, insurance is complicated!

Greater flexibility and freedom in treatment
When therapy is not dictated by insurance requirements, your care can be guided fully by your needs rather than by a diagnosis code or limits set by a third party. This allows for:

  • More individualized and holistic treatment

  • Flexibility in session length, frequency, and focus

  • The ability to work on growth, prevention, and life transitions—not only “medical necessity”

No unexpected costs or surprises
With private pay, you know the cost of each session upfront. Insurance can sometimes result in unexpected bills due to deductibles, copays, or coverage changes. Private pay offers clarity and predictability, so there are no surprise statements arriving weeks or months later.

Increased privacy
When you use insurance, certain information (such as diagnoses and treatment plans) must be shared with the insurance company and become part of your medical record. Private pay allows your therapy to remain confidential between you and your therapist, except where disclosure is required by law.

My Commitment

My goal is always to provide thoughtful, ethical, and high-quality care. Moving to a private-pay model allows me to focus fully on my clients, offer more flexibility in treatment, and reduce the administrative burden that can interfere with the therapeutic process.

If you have questions about fees, insurance, or whether private pay is a good fit for you, I welcome that conversation. I want you to feel informed, respected, and confident in your care decisions.

If you are paying privately or plan to seek treatment out of network, I follow the Federal Poverty Guidelines to assess payment:
